What is Group Discussion In the field of competitive selection, "Group Discussion " is used as a selection aid like the "selection interview" to asses the personality of the candidate and determine his/her suitability to the job in hand. The selection or employment interview is a discussion generally limited to the candidate on the one hand and the examiner or examiners on the other hand. Secondly the interview can be conducted on controlled lines. The candidate is expected to confine his answers within the scope of the question posed to him. Finally interview is quite time consuming and is restricted to single candidate at a time. A Group Discussion as opposed to an interview, takes place among the candidates themselves. Generally candidates of same age level, similar educational qualifications, experience and environmental background are grouped together and asked to discuss a subject in an inhibited manner. A group will usually consist of eight to ten candidates. The candidates in a group will have full freedom to express thier views the way they please. The examiner will not decide or tell who should speak first or last, how much time each candidate should take and so on. document.write('
