In public Speaking three things are very essential a speaker, something to be spoken about and an audience. In other words,public Speaking implies a person who can speak, a subject on which he has to speak and an audience to whom he has to speak. As already told above the main aim of the speaker is to persuade the audience to a certain point of view or to persuade them to follow or not to follow a certain course action. Essential Qualifications of a Speaker. 1) Strong Desire :- A person who wants to become a successful public speaker must have a strong desire to learn the art of public speaking is only superficial then yo cannot become a good speaker. You must work persistently to achieve your aim and to master the subject of public Speaking. async='async' crossorigin='anonymous' src='https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-1402522808766850'/> To develop a strong and persistent desire, you must inculcate an enthusiasm in yourself for the study and the practice of the subject of public speaking.You must realise the immense benefits which will accrue, if you become a good speaker. if you are a lecturer then by becoming a good speaker, youcan achieve success in your teaching career.if you are a politician, you will be able to mould the public opinion through your effective Speaking and if you are in business you can earn millions through this art of persuasion. The power of speech will give you a great pleasure and a new confidence in your personality. Knowledge of the Subject:- Before you start speaking you must have a thorough knowledge of the subject of your talk.The knowledge of your subject matter will equip you with the confidence to talk with authority before your audience. You should deliver a talk only when you know that you have something to say on the subject lest you should cut a sorry figure. It is, therefore, always advisable that you should try to gather some knowledge regarding the subject matter and some facts relating to it, before hand. Even great speakers like Abraham Lincoln, planned their speeches well in advance. A speaker becomes nervous only, when either he has not prepared his speech well or when he has nothing to say on the subject. Speak with Confidence:- The third qualification, which a speaker must have is to speak confidently. A speaker must develop the courage to face the audience. Even deep breathing for a few seconds just before facing the audiance can prove to be a great morale booster for you and will cheer you up. While facing the audience you must act bravely and confidently. There should not be even an iota of nervousness in you mind.Do not think that the audience sitting in front of you is composed of your tormentors or a pack of hounds. On the other hand, you should think that there are so many tigers and snakes in this world.When they have not killed you then how can this innocuous audience eat you up? For this purpose you must practice acting fearlessly and courageously. One must try to develop the qualities of boldness, courage & confidence continuously. Try to develop these qualities through sheer practice. Practice Makes a Man Perfect:-It is rightly said that practice makes a man perfect. For this purpose you must practice continuously. There is no substitute for practice.For this it is essential that you must grab every opportunity for speaking which comes in your way. This real life experience will give you the best practice. Of course, to achieve sure success you must practise your speech by yourself a number of times, before you speak in front of a group or audience. You should choose a subject of your own liking. Preparea few minutes speech on this subject.And then practice it in a closed room, in front of a full length mirror. While practicing you should imagine as if you are speaking in front of a large audience. This will give you a lot of confidence in yourself. You should speak the speech prepared by you loud enough to know the defects in your pronunciation & voice by yourself. While standing, in front of the mirror, youwill be able to know the effects of your actions, if there is any clumsiness in your gesticulation, try to remove it. By continuous & persistent practice many ordinary persons became famous speakers in their life. Determination to Succeed:- Although it is said that nothing succeeds like success yet it can be said that determination is the guarantee for a sure success.For this purpose you must have determination in yourself that you are going to master the art of good speech by your will power. It is by sheer will power that man has performed the feats which were considered impossible in the past. Man has reached the moon & climbed the Mount Everest due to his strong will power& determiation to succeed. of course in the beginning you may speak only on those subjects, about which you know something or in which you are keenly interested,to a few persons at a time or only to your chosen friends. But gradually as you confidence, You can interst larger audience in your talks. if you are determined to become a good speaker, then later on. you can speak to thousands of persons at a time. If you put your mind & heart into this aim of yours, to become a good speaker, you are sure to become the same oneday. Sincerity of purpose:- The next qualification is sincerity of purpose. If you are sincerely making efforts to develop your speech power then there will be no obstacle in your way which you cannot surmount.For this reason even a very talented person like Ravi Shankar the famous guitarist had to practice for hours together daily.Demosthenes, the great Greek orator who suffered from the disability of stammering could achieve success only due to his sincerity of purpose & super human will power to overcome his deficiency. Napoleon was right when he said that the word impossible is only in the dictionary of fools. Good Vocabulary:- The next qualification essential for a successful speaker is that he must have a good vocabulary. Words are power. To become a powerful speaker a person must increase his word power. words are the speaker's stock-in trade. In reality, they are his instruments with which he has to work. so, he must have at his command a large & powerful vocabulary. Vocabulary is just like an armoury for a speaker, out of which he can use whatever weapons he likes according to the situation. Of course,the speaker must know the exact meaning & the correct pronunciation of words.For this purpose, it is very essential that you must develop the habit of consulting a good dictionary, as well as increasing your word power, with the help of good books on vocabulary.
